Home – What is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

maintains the health of body and mind by balancing the complementary forces of yin and yang and generating the life energy known as qi (“chi”). Qi flows along clearly recognizable pathways, the meridians, and connects the different regions of the body with each other.

Like Yin and Yang, Qi must also be in harmony: Disturbed or blocked Qi flows cause illness. The aim of TCM treatment is to balance yin and yang and ensure the free circulation of qi, and therefore the health of body and mind.

The characteristic feature of TCM teachings is to preserve the unity of searching for the original cause of an illness. Traditional Chinese Medicine is not based on combating symptoms, but on healing at the source. It includes both philosophy and the composition of the human body.

Their philosophy consists of Qi, the five elements and Yin and Yang.

Chinese medicine also states that the human body consists of organs (zang fu), meridians, qi, blood and fluid. These are the individual components of our body. The treatment principle of TCM is therefore to balance and harmonize the individual components of the body.

This harmony and inner balance

is achieved through treatment methods such as acupuncture, Tui-Na massage, herbal therapy, cupping, moxibustion and five-element nutritional advice.

The universe is a large unit (TaiJi or Tai-Chi) and the human being is a small unit. The small unit harmonizes with the large unit. This harmony can be divided into three groups:

  • All human organs influence each other. If even one part of the body does not function properly or hurts, the whole organism is disturbed. Our mind and body are intertwined; if our mind deteriorates, so does our body.
  • Humans are also part of the natural fabric and their health varies depending on the weather, season or habitat.
  • People interact with their surroundings. When we are around people we love, we are happier.

“If the person is okay, the family is okay. If the family is in order, the city is in order. If the city is in order, the government is in order. If the government is in order, the country is in order. If the countries are in order, the world is in order.”
